MP9
Historical Overview
The in-game MP9 is based on the real-world Brügger & Thomet (B&T) MP9, a Swiss 9×19mm Parabellum submachine gun/machine pistol. It is a direct development of the Steyr TMP (Tactical Machine Pistol), the design rights to which B&T purchased from Steyr in 2001. B&T improved upon the original design by adding a folding stock, a top Picatinny rail for optics, and a trigger safety. Weighing only 1.4 kg (3.1 lbs) unloaded and measuring just 30.3 cm with the stock folded, it is one of the world's lightest and most concealable select-fire weapons. Operating on a rotating barrel blowback mechanism with a staggering cyclic rate of 800–900 rounds per minute, it is favored by close protection details, vehicle crews, and strike forces for delivering a massive volume of accurate fire in confined spaces — perfectly translating into its in-game role as a rapid-fire, high-mobility ambush weapon.
